What is this streaming stuff, anyway? In the context of your Slingbox and the SlingPlayer software, you can think of streaming as a broadcast of media over the Internet. Lots of different types of media files can be streamed -- sound, video, animations, etc. -- but the common factor in all streaming technology is that these file types are broken up into smaller pieces before being sent out over the Internet. It's kind of like someone trying to send you a huge book in the mail, one page at at time.
The stream (in this case, your TV signal) is then received, interpreted and played back by the media player software of your choice -- in this instance, the SlingPlayer!
What makes our SlingStream technology so innovative is the way that it automatically adjusts your video quality to provide you with the best possible viewing experience. All of the little pieces (or "packets") of data being streamed via your Slingbox over the Internet to your PC, Mac or mobile device are continually optimized behind the scenes by our SlingStream technology to give you the best quality streaming video and sound imaginable.
